Research: I work in the field of Computational Biology. I am proficient in C, and Python programming languages. I also develop my scripts using Perl, R, shell scripting, and other required languages. I am enthusiastic to work on the in-silico study of different problems in biology. I am presently working with peptide study through modeling, simulation, and machine learning. Additionally, beta-lactamase enzyme understanding through sequences and structures is my current interest too. My research interest includes Studying the behavior of peptides using available data (structural data) and techniques such as MD simulation, Anti-hypertensive peptides generation and prediction using machine learning techniques, Development of a computational pipeline toward automation of beta-lactamase-based AMR data analysis

Research: Reduction in plastic usage is a demand of time. There are several approaches taken worldwide on this topic. But the production of a green polymer like PHA is probably one of the best solutions to this problem that my Ph.D. work focuses on. PHA is the biologically synthesized green plastic and alternative to toxic synthetic plastic. In the current project, utilization of the agro waste as a carbon source for PHA synthesis significantly reduces the cost and enables a cost-effective production.

Research: I joined Hazra lab in Dec. 2016 as a Ph.D. scholar. I started my work on biodegradable polymer i.e., Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA). Previously I worked in the beverage industry. My area of expertise mainly includes Isolation and identification of PHA producers, Microbial growth, and polymer production optimization. Polymer characterization, Waste valorization using agricultural and agro-industrial waste and polymer production. We are aiming in applying our work toward developing biomedical implants and bandages.

Research: My research topic is characterizing drug-resistant beta-lactamases produced by isolated bacteria from field samples, towards the understanding of AMR and the development of novel theranostics. My research focused on sample collection, screening, and isolation of drug-resistant bacteria. Identification of bacterial strain and resistant gene from isolated bacterial samples and Cloning, over-expression, and characterization of beta-lactamases obtained from respective samples. For sensitization of resistant bacteria by applying combinatorial therapeutics is one of the important objectives

Research: The resistance to beta-lactam drug is the most threatening because till now it is the most potent antibiotic that our doctors routinely prescribe to us for any bacterial infection. My research interest involves understanding the structure-function relationship of various classes of beta-lactamase like Class A beta-lactamase, Class D carbapenemase, and Class B Metallo beta-lactamase. The primary aim is to clone and purify various classes of beta-lactamase from the wide strain of Enterobacteriaceae species and measure the activity of the beta-lactamase towards various classes of beta-lactam drugs. I also study the inhibitory activity of various carbapenems, mechanism-based inhibitors, non-beta-lactam compounds, and boronate compounds towards various classes of beta-lactamase and measure their interaction parameters with the help of various biophysical techniques. The next aim of our project is to screen perfect antibiotic combinations and check the combination with the help of in vivo bacterial screening methods.

Research: My work is focused on Antimicrobial resistance caused by the Metallo-Beta Lactamases like NDM, VIM, IMP, BcII, etc. MBLs efficiently hydrolyze the Beta-Lactam(BL) ring of the BL antibiotics like Penicillin, Cephalosporin, Carbapenem, Monobactam, etc. MBLs have become a matter of global concern as they can cleave any of the BL drugs (except Aztreonam) including last resort Carbapenems and no clinically approved inhibitor is still in our hands. My work focusses on the biochemical and biophysical characterization of MBLs followed by the structure determination by X-Ray Crystallography to understand the mechanics behind the catastrophic ability of hydrolysis of this class of enzymes. MD-Simulation is applied to look at the dynamic properties at an atomic level. Docking studies with different substrates are performed to check the substrate profile of MBLs.
